Located in the North East of England, Hartlepool serves as one of the primary Frontier Port operations on the River Tees, and is one of the UK’s closest ports to some of the world’s largest proposed and active offshore projects.

In 2021, Tees Valley was announced as one of the first places to receive Freeport status under the new Government policy to create Freeports across the country. Covering 4,500 acres, the Teesside Freeport is the largest in the UK, and Hartlepool Dock sits directly within this zone.

The Port is a hub for renewable energy, oil and gas activity, with a number of industry-leading businesses such as JDR Cables operating substantial manufacturing facilities directly on the estate. Such businesses can take advantage of the port’s excellent connectivity, extensive available land and like-minded business cluster.

This thriving energy hub also lies close to Teesport, unlocking powerful collaborative potential between energy providers, world-class manufacturers and industry-leading suppliers. In addition, the port is just one of a select few in the UK with the capability to offer pipe spooling up to 900m in length.

Hartlepool has lock-free access to the North Sea and is also home to businesses from the manufacturing, chemical and metals industries. Operated and owned by PD Ports, the site provides first-class stevedoring, operating to a safety-first philosophy, combined with comprehensive warehousing.

Working collaboratively, we build trusted partnerships with customers which allows us to act as a seamless extension of their business. This provides access to many of our services including transport, shunting, ships agency and freight forwarding; improving supply chains with one single point of contact.

We also hold a license to handle and store waste at Hartlepool, allowing us to manage a variety of bulk and waste cargo, including RDF and SRF waste, limestone, rutile sand, shot coke and talc.

For connectivity and onward distribution, Hartlepool offers rail access and excellent road connections, with travel north and south via the A19 and A1 (M), as well as west via the A66.

With a proven reputation of delivering new, private investment, attracting over £1 billion’s worth of projects to Teesside in the last decade as part of an ambitious vision to make the River Tees the UK’s most successful port region by 2050, PD Ports is also the Statutory Harbour Authority for the River Tees, responsible for safe use and maintenance of the river and wholly committed to ensuring that the river plays its full part in supporting the future growth of our region and the UK as a whole.

As part of this responsibility, in 2021, PD Ports launched a dedicated website to promote the River Tees and boost its international competitiveness.
